Lawmaker turns over speedboat to Westmincom

BASILAN Congressman Mujiv Hataman, the former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) governor, has provided a boost to the maritime interdiction capability of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).

This, as Hataman turned over a speedboat powered by two outboard engines, with 500 horse power each, to be used by Westmincom in seaborne patrols.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, Westmincom chief, received the speedboat including its keys and manuals in a turnover ceremony Sunday, September 1, at the grandstand of Camp Basilan Navarro that houses the Westmincom headquarters in Zamboanga City.

Hataman said four more speedboats will be turned over to the Joint Task Forces Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Central.

He said the Armm, during his stint as governor, has allotted P30 million to procure five speedboats for the Joint Task Forces of the Westmincom.

“It’s a small deed to repay the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) for all its hard work and perseverance to secure Mindanao,” he said.

Sobejana said the speedboats will be utilized by the Joint Task Forces in their maritime interdiction, border patrol, and transport and strategic insertion of troops in their operational environment. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
