Shooting suspect dies in shootout with cops

A FARMER, who was involved in a shooting incident, was killed in a shootout with responding lawmen in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, September 3.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the shootout happened shortly after 11 p.m. Monday in Kapamanok Village, San Pablo, Zamboanga del Sur.

Galvez identified the slain farmer as Wilson Sayson, 52, who died instantaneously.

She said before the shootout, Angelito Tumarong, 45, a hollow block maker, was driving his motorcycle around 10 p.m. Monday when Sayson shot him.

However, she said Sayson missed his target and hit the right-side cover of Tumarong’s motorcycle, prompting the latter to seek police assistance.

She said the responding policemen, in the presence of Sayson’s elder brother, Kapamanok Village councilor Ronito, tried to convince the suspect to surrender but to no avail.

Instead, Sayson, who was inside his mother’s house, surfaced and opened fire prompting the policemen to return fire killing him instantly.

She said recovered from the slain suspect was a caliber .45 pistol with four ammunition, an empty shell of caliber .45 pistol and one empty shell of caliber 5.56 millimeter. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
