Cogon Market now has CCTV cameras

SOME 48 new closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed in Cogon Market to ensure public order and swift solution to crimes in Cagayan de Oro City's busiest market.

The P2 million worth of CCTV cameras can pan, tilt and zoom of up to 200 meters in the surrounding areas.

Police Colonel Dexter Paje, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) deputy director for operations, said this development will address the high prevalence of theft cases in the market.

Paje said CCTV footage is a big help in the investigation and prosecuting a suspect.

"Sa moreklamo nga nakawatan, posible nga ma-identify dayon nato ang suspect kay ma-monitor man nato ang dagan sa merkado," he said.

"Accordingly, ang data namo sa gallery of suspects ma-feed na sa system so kung mosulod ang kawatan sa vicinity, ma alert kita," Paje added.

City Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, who oversees the markets, said the CCTV will allow them to implement market rules and regulations effectively.

"Makita ang mga badlungon, kinsa kadtong gapanglabay sa basura and also this ensures public markets are safe kay common notion sa markets daghay manguot, mga kawatan. So, we are trying to erase all doubts," Nacaya said.

Nacaya said the City Council also approved on Monday, September 2, another P1 million funding for the same project in the Westbound Terminal.

Mayor Oscar Moreno said this is part of the City Government's efforts to make Cogon market and other markets an enabling environment.

"Make our markets a playing field and an enabling environment, meaning naa ang security, kalimpyo, ang waste water is managed well, ug naay sakto nga suga. We are on the right track," he said.
