Pacya: Co-op Management Course at BSU-Open University

AFTER graduating my Education course, I enrolled another program that is aligned with my current career as a cooperative worker; this is the product of the adage that if we stop to learn, we start to die.

The Benguet State University-Open University (BSU-OU) is offering a master’s program for cooperative management. In general, this program targets to develop versatile students who will be consultants, leaders, and managers of cooperative organizations.

This program is anchored on the institution’s mission of providing advanced quality life-long education for all through open and distance learning interventions.

BSU-OU is geared to making instructional packages accessible to all publics through collaboration, institutional agreement, and other appropriate mechanisms.

Master in Cooperative Management (MCM) offers various modules that will help develop and enhance the principles, strategies, knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed in the cooperative arena. The succeeding modules are described based on the curricular program of the university.

Management Concepts and Approaches – this module presents the fundamentals of management and stresses on the learning of the evolution of ideas leading to the contemporary management thought, its empirical value and knowledge enlargement possibilities.

Organizational Behavior – this discusses how an individual can analyze his own behavior to understand himself better as an organizational citizen, which in turn guides him to understand others. It presents the various theories of human behavior including Filipino psychology.

Managerial Accounting for Cooperatives – this focuses on the use of managerial accounting information in business firms like co-ops. The course is intended for students who have no or little background in accounting.

Financial Analysis for Cooperatives – this enables students with non-specialized accounting background and very limited financial management experience to learn fundamental knowledge on how to read financial reports, assess and analyze financial performance and use the results as input for decision-making.

Marketing Management and Cooperative Marketing – this deals with the principles of agricultural marketing, marketing cooperation, and different marketing cooperative scheme.

Cooperative Business Operations and Management – this discusses the development of an organization, management theory, management systems and concepts, and management contingency views.

MCM is not only designed for the cooperative sector but is also for potential planners and managers of public and private groups.

Learning is rewarding in BSU-OU. There is a combination of self-study modules and tutorial sessions once a month in a semester. Aside from the expert and experienced faculty members, the school also offers affordable rates and flexible modes of payment.
