THE Eagles tamed the Cheetahs, 81-78, in the finals to emerge as the champions of the Elite Basketball Club Cebu City Season 15 last Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 at the Visayan Glass Gym in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
The Eagles of businessman and sportsman Mark Ynoc sizzled in the fourth period, outscoring the Cheetahs, 25-20, to overcome a 61-64 deficit heading to the final 10 minutes of play.
Former University of the Visayas great Randy dela Pisa led the Eagles in scoring with 21 points while ex-Southwestern University-Phinma ace Janjan Auditor submitted solid numbers with 17 points. Ynoc ended up with nine.
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for the Cheetahs, which was gunning for a perfect season after going undefeated in the eliminations, the quarterfinals and the semifinal round.
Vernon Anfone put up 19 points to lead the Cheetahs while RJ Acha added 16 points. John Rodrigo chipped in 10. One of the team’s reliables — Kimo Bajamunde — was held down to just six points. (JNP)
