City to hold women's awareness walk

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government will host this year’s Women’s Walk on Monday as part of the National Women’s Month celebration, with the theme: “Babae, Tagumpay Ka Ng Bayan.”

Thousands of women coming from the city’s 35 barangays, representatives from the national and regional agencies and members of various women organizations are expected to walk at 7 a.m. starting from intersection of the McArthur Highway and the Jose Abad Santos Avenue up to the City Hall.

The walk will be followed by a program that will feature a “Women’s Forum” with Representative Riza Hontiveros as guest speaker.

Quota International Pampanga Past President Malou Garbes said the event aims to propagate the awareness on the important role played by women in today’s society.

Quota International Pampanga is an all-women group and a major participant in the awareness walk.

Per Presidential Proclamation 224 and 227, as well as Republic Act 6949, every March of each year is being observed as National Women's Month.

Garbes said the event also aims to highlight women's achievement in paving the way for women's advancement and improvement amid major challenges.

Also the objective for this year's celebration is to inspire and increase understanding of women micro entrepreneurs, partners from government agencies, non-government organizations, academe and the private sector on microenterprise development, government programs and services that respond to issues and concerns of the Filipino women, including but not limited to women's rights, environment, family and work life balance.

Further, it also aims to inculcate knowledge among partners from government agencies, non-government organizations and the private sector on the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Magna Carta of Women.

“Lastly, the celebration aims to increase awareness of the general public on the platforms of the presidentiables and other elective officials to advance the status of women,” Grabes said, stressing that the Monday activity is open to all—even men. (IOF)
