Man found dead in DPWH manhole

A 35-YEAR-OLD man was found dead in a 20-feet drainage manhole of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) at Purok Makawiwili, Barangay Banago, Bacolod City Tuesday morning, September 3.

The fatality was identified as Dennis Yanguer of Barangay Banago. He was identified by his family.

Police Major Ruel Culanag, chief of Police Station 3, said a concerned citizen informed them at around 10 a.m. that an unidentified man was found lying inside the manhole.

Investigation showed the victim was last seen on September 1 having a drinking session along Purok Makawiwili.

Culanag said the manhole, which was constructed by the DPWH’s contractor for its drainage system, was located near the house of the victim.

“He used to pass by the area going to their house. There’s a possibility that he fell in the manhole while he was on his way home,” he said.

He added the manhole has a cover, but it’s not concrete.

The victim’s body was pulled out by the personnel of City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

Culanag said they are still conducting an investigation to determine if there’s a foul play in the incident.

“We already requested for an autopsy and it’s up to the family of the victim,” he said.

The police will also coordinate with the DPWH to fix the manhole in the area.
