Police to file raps vs 2 suspects in woman slay

THE Bacolod City Police Station 8 is now preparing the murder charges to be filed against the two suspects who killed Crystal Faith Jastiva in front of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) near the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) headquarters last August 17.

Police Major Charles Gever, chief of Police Station 8, yesterday, September 4, said one of the suspects who was identified as Tyron Barena, 27, of Barangay Taculing and presently detained at Police Station 4, executed an extra judicial confession that he killed Jastiva along with his friend who was the driver of the motorcycle.

He said they withheld the name of Barena’s companion pending the filing of charges against them.

Jastiva, 25, who lives in Bonifacio Street, Purok Balunggay, Barangay Poblacion, Bago City, was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding suspects in front of BJMP after she visited her live-in partner on August 17.

On August 23, Barena was arrested by operatives of Police Station 4 after falling from a motorcycle in an Oplan Sita along Galo Street. Barena and the driver of the motorcycle did not stop and tried to escape.

The policemen then chased them, until Barena fell on the road while the driver of the motorcycle managed to escape.

Gever said Barena admitted that he was the one who shot the victim due to unsettled debt with his friend which is related to illegal drugs.

“After our thorough investigation, Barena admitted to us that he was the one who shot the victim,” he said.

He added they are now coordinating with the family of Jastiva for the filing of charges against the suspects.

After the filing of the case, Gever said this case will be considered cleared.

Last month, Police Station 4 also filed charges for violations of Republic Act (RA) 10591 of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against Barena.
