DABAWENYOS Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, chess international master (IM) John Marvin Miciano and swimmer Ivo Nikolai Enot were feted during the 2nd Siklab Youth Awards Night at the Market Market Activity Center, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig Monday, September 2.

Ramirez received the godfather of the year award along with Go for Gold head Jeremy Go.

In his speech, Ramirez underscored anew that children are the future of national sports.

“We must invest in them, give them the opportunity to become children of values and character. Provide them with environment conducive for scientific and strategic coaching,” he said.

He also urged athletes present during the awards night, “Don’t give up on your dreams. Study and practice well. Read books and search for more and don’t give up.”

He added that helping and providing sports programs to children is always a win-win situation. The journey of these children is hard and difficult but meaningful, he said, and the life skills they learn are vital to improve their lives.

The 19-year-old Miciano was given the Young Hero Athlete awardee while 13-year-old Enot was among the Super Kids awardees.
