EMBATTLED Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon packed his bags and left his quarters at the BuCor compound just a few hours after President Rodrigo Duterte demanded his immediate resignation.

In a statement, Faeldon said he bows to his "commander-in-chief's order without any hard feelings".

"My commander-in-chief/appointing authority has spoken. I am a marine and a marine does as he is told. I most humbly bow to my commander-in-chief's order without any hard feelings," his official statement reads.

Faeldon reportedly left the BuCor compound together with his wife and children at around 1 a.m. on Thursday, September 5.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said they have yet to identify Faeldon’s successor.

Duterte said in a media interview Wednesday night that Faeldon "has to go" for disobeying his order.

Calls for Faeldon's resignation were made after BuCor said some 1,914 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) who were convicted of heinous crimes have been granted premature release since 2014 based on good conduct time allowance (GCTA).

Duterte first tapped Faeldon as Bureau of Customs chief, but the latter stepped down in August 2016 after the discovery of P6.4-billion smuggled shabu from China through the Manila International Container Terminal.

The President re-appointed Faeldon to the Office of Civil Defense and later on tasked him to lead the BuCor in November 2018. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
