THERE are days when life can get too busy. But one good thing about us Filipinos is our ability to take a beat. One tradition is waking up from a quick afternoon siesta to have “merienda,” also known as a light meal.

In a way, this not only lets us enjoy delicacies we call our own but it’s also a reminder that it’s okay to relax every now and then as a way to recharge. Meriendas give that impression, especially when enjoyed in the company of friends and family.

Business hotel Cebu Grand Hotel takes importance of the balance between business and leisure through its signature Cebuano hospitality, its ambience and its continuous introduction of various dining options—including its Merienda Cena buffet.

Launched November last year, the merienda buffet prides itself in having a varied selection of Filipino “kakanins” and Cebuano favorites with dishes including banana turon, sapin-sapin, cassava cake, puto and kutsinta paired with free flowing coffee and juice. Other choices include binignit, palabok, dinuguan and tablea de Barili, made from the Forastero variety of cacao. Tablea de Barili is known for its rich, dark flavor with that intense bitter taste that packs a punch. On some days, the buffet comes with street food selections or a pasta station; whichever, it adds to the variety to keep the guests coming.

Cebu Grand Hotel is host to numerous guests from businessmen to tourists. With food being the entryway to a culture, there’s no better way for guests wishing to explore what the city has to offer, than by first letting our flavors do all the talking. The hotel’s Merienda Cena is an avenue for its guests to partake in something they’ve never tasted before, for locals to enjoy during afternoons when the need is to just relax, and for balikbayans to taste those familiar flavors long yearned for.

“No haste. That’s one thing we’re proud of. You get that homey feeling and you get to enjoy your food,” said Cebu Grand Hotel’s marcomm manager, Noreen M. Tormis’ about its vibe, which is the icing on the cake—its calmness (they also have an assortment of cakes, by the way).

Enjoy Cebu Grand Hotel’s Merienda Cena buffet every 2 to 6 p.m from Monday to Saturday at the hotel’s Cafe Lorenzo. Cebu Grand Hotel is located at Vibo Place, N. Escario St., Cebu City.
