'Shabu' worth P1M seized in Oro

NEARLY P1 million worth of suspected illegal drugs was seized by police and anti-narcotics agents in separate drug busts in Cagayan de Oro City on Wednesday, September 4.

Police arrested Michael Andamun, 24, resident of Dabatian Street, Carmen, this city, inside an inn along JR Borja-Pabayo streets.

Andamun yielded around 105 grams of suspected shabu (Methamphetamine hydrochloride), worth around P714,000.

The Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU-10) said Andamun is listed under police's Directorate for Intelligence (DI).

Police are still investigating the background of the suspect in the illegal drug trade.

Lawyer Edgardo Uy, chairperson of the Regulatory and Complaint Board (RCB), urged management and owners of inns and hotels to be responsible in taking in customers.

"It is a welcome note that our dedicated law enforcement units are always on the alert, and have in fact delivered positive results of their operations, because our city is moving towards becoming a metropolis so we need to ensure every inhabitant's safety and security," Uy said.

"I hope more law defiant individuals and groups will fall into the long arms of the law. Each one of us has a role to play. Every citizen must be conscious that our communities play a major role in shaping the future of the coming generations. We can ensure a better future for everyone if we act now," he added.

Meanwhile, members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Northern Mindanao (PDEA-10), have arrested two mothers who were allegedly involved in the illegal drug activities in Barangay Balulang, this city.

Arrested were Jalilah Itomama alias "Pidao Macaondot Itomama" and Divina Sumagayon alias "Diding", both residents of Riverside Carinugan, Balulang.

PDEA-Northern Mindanao said Itomama was number 8 while Sumagayon was number 9 target-listed drug personality in the city.

Each of them yielded around 15 grams of shabu worth P102,000.

Arrested drug suspects are now detained and will face drug charges.
