DAVAO Association of Guidance Counselors, Inc.-Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (Dagco-PGCA) added another milestone in its already flourishing history as it celebrated its Golden Anniversary last August 22-23, 2019 at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, Davao City with the theme: Dagco @ 50: Recalibrating the Helping Professionals’ Toolkit.

The two-day annual assembly and conference-workshop was attended by guidance counselors and other helping professionals including psychologists, psychometricians, teachers, social workers, nurses, and employees from government agencies and private institutions participants coming from within and outside Davao City.

Participants and guests were welcomed by the Dagco-PGCA president Patrick John Lentejas, RGC, as the program officially commenced. Insightful keynote messages from Jenny Johnston, (Emotional Freedom Techniques Universe Trainer and founder of Quantum EFT, Australia), Dr. Adelaida Gines (PGCA president) and Dr. Luzviminda Guzman of Philippine Regulatory Board of Guidance and Counseling (PRBGC) were delivered shortly after.

On its first day, Davao City’s Acting Mayor, Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte gave his message which was focused on how he was personally motivated by one of his guidance counselors during his student days, and that the event held great importance as it upholds guidance counselors’ salient roles in schools and even in students’ lives.

While the second day of the convention held two simultaneous learning sessions and workshops. Room A consisted of a larger group of participants, with Jenny Johnston on the topic about Emotional Freedom Techniques. Her co-facilitator during the activity was Dr. Gina Lamzon.

Room B had Dr. Sheila Marie G. Hocson on the topic about CBT in the Age of Disruption. Dr. Hocson’s talk focused on the cognitive model of depression and how the cognitive model effectively addresses this pressing issue among students today.

I can say that the occasion was especially dedicated to all the men and women in the past 50 years whose hard work and passion made Dagco to what it is today. Truly, Dagco’s 50 years is indeed a symbol of competence and compassion emblazoned in gold.
