THE Corpus Christi chessers are heavily favored to rule the South District Meet which unfurls today at the South City Central School in brgy. Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City.

Fresh from ruling the city fiesta’s 20-under class and CDO Chessmoms’ junior rivalry, reigning National Shell Active Chess kiddies champion David Rey Ancheta is confident to hurdle the district meet elimination alongside fellow CCS Knight Euniel Grant Capilitan, who also emerged champion in the just-held Masters Class Chess School tourney which is Fide-rated.

Equally-solid are Corpus Christi’s high school girls fronted by the Palaro pair of Lorebina Carrasco II and Maeren Janiella Garcia.

However, Corpus Christi virtually yielded the spots for regional meet in elementary level with no entry in girls bracket and only Biboy Almojallas can able to play full time in the boys’ side.

“Bawi na lang next year sa elementary in time of the possible comeback stint of Milo Little Olympics Mindanao in Cagayan de Oro,” said assistant chess coach Jeanny Ancheta.

Meanwhile, Corpus Christi basketball coach Carlo Dagalea expects St. Mary’s School and Xavier University Grade School as their top rivals in South district caging set on Saturday either at the Nazareth gym or nearby Macasandig covered court.
