THE recently-held 2019 Batang Pinoy National Championships in Puerto Princesa, Palawan grants spots to the national team seeing action in next year’s Children of Asia Games in Russia as bared earlier by the organizing Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
Now winning basketball girls coach Catrina June Pong-Biongcog and the rest of the coaches and athletes alike from Cagayan de Oro that won golds in the weeklong meet have this thing in mind: Do we really have the chance to join the Philippine team and strut wares in Russia?
Whatever, Catrina keeps encouraging her wards from Corpus Christi School and some reinforcement from Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) to continue training hard after winning the marbles in Batang Pinoy basketball competition for 15-under girls.
“Who knows that you might be included in the Philippine team roster that will see action in Russia so, mas maayo nga ready ta permi,” she told her smaller but feisty charges on Wednesday’s practice drill at the Corpus Christi gym.
The Oro cagebelles finished undefeated in the Batang Pinoy meet, running roughshod against their befuddled foes by 20 or more points.
After a perfect 6-0 slate in the single elimination round, they encountered some rough sailing before defeating Pasig City, 77-58 in the semifinals then summoned all their strength en route to a crushing conquest of Iloilo City, 108-66 in the finals.
