Tagum LGU condemns series of killings

THE City Government of Tagum condemned the series of killings in the city during the past months, the most recent of which transpired on September 4, killing a 22-year-old and injuring another minor.

“The act of violence that targeted the hapless individuals in Tagum City is barbaric, yet smacked of cowardice in view of the perpetrators’ perceived cloak of anonymity,” the LGU statement issued Thursday, September 5, read.

It further said, “We call on the Tagum City Police Force to ensure that the perpetrators of these murders be brought under the mantle of justice so that they can be meted with the penalty that is commensurate to the heinousness of their crimes.”

Based on the police report, at around 8:20 p.m. on September 4, police in Tagum City received information of a shooting incident at Purok Dahlia, Barangay Visayan Village, Tagum City.

Upon arrival, it was learned that there were two victims of the incident identified as Marinelle Huesna Tajale, female, 15, who was already rescued by concerned neighbor and brought to Tagum Doctors Hospital and Judy Lou Huesna Palas, female, 22, who was also brought by responding Mobile Patrol-6 to Davao Regional Medical Center.

The initial investigation showed that at 8:15 p.m., the victims were resting inside the house owned by their aunt Jemma Vistal when an unidentified suspect forcibly opened the main door of the house and without apparent reason shot the victims several times.

The report said that Tajale sustained a gunshot wound in her left leg and is currently in stable condition while Palas, who was rushed to Davao Regional Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds in her body, was declared dead on arrival.

Police is looking on grudge as the motive of the killing but other angles are also being investigated.

“The Tagum PNP is also directed to do everything within the legal boundaries afforded them by law to ensure that peace, security and safety is a personal reality for all Tagumenyos and Tagum City’s visitors,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the City Government of Tagum urged the public to be vigilant and coordinate with authorities should they have information on the series of crimes in the city to immediately arrest the suspects.

A reward will be given to those who can give information on the identity of the suspects and assured that it will be treated with utmost confidentiality. Anyone who can give information as to the identity of the killer or killers can directly report to City Mayor Allan Rellon through 0917-6248024.
