THE Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay San Vicente in Apalit town recently distributed financial assistance to hundreds of indigent public elementary students.

According to Barangay San Vicente SK Chairman Allen Dungo, a total of 300 students of San Vicente Central School benefited from the program for needy students.

The program, which carries the theme “Transforming Education”, is in line with the municipality’s celebration of the Linggo ng Kabataan (Youth Week), Dungo said.

“The SK, being the representative of youth to the government, focuses on providing assistance to the necessities of our constituents, among which is education. Through the awarding of financial assistance, we hope to help the students and parents for their educational needs,” he said.

Aside from the distribution of financial assistance, Committee on Peace and Order Chairman Councilor Edmon “Tuks” Simon also hosted a Drug Awareness Seminar for students in an aim to guide them away from the use of illegal drugs.

Moreover, the local government also launched a livelihood program which can help unemployed and home-based parents have additional income that can be used for the education of their children.

Dungo, who is also the president of the Federation SK-Apalit Chapter, expressed gratitude to the local government for prioritizing the needs of the youth through the downloading of programs and projects.

“Our deepest gratitude to Mayor Jun Tetangco, Vice-Mayor Peter Nucom and the local council not only for their support to the programs of the SK, but also for creating programs that will further assist our fellow youth,” he said.
