National Teachers’ Month begins September 5

IF YOU did not have the opportunity to thank your teacher, this is the best time to do it.

This is because from September 5 to October 5, the country is celebrating National Teachers’ Month.

The annual celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 242. The proclamation was signed on August 24, 2011 by Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, Jr. during the term of former President Benigno Aquino.

The celebration of National Teacher's Month aims "to revitalize the image of teaching as a vocation by increasing public awareness on the value of teachers in Philippine society and national development."

Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Director Nicolas Capulong said that the celebration aims to honor those who are in the teaching profession; acknowledge and give emphasis on the crucial role, loyal service, and dedicated commitment of teachers in developing globally minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation.

This year’s 2019 National Teachers Month which runs with the theme “Gurong Pilipino: Handa sa Makabagong Pagbabago,” is expected to be observed by both public and private schools with programs and events.

This year’s celebration also features freebies and promos for teachers and their families by private companies and DepEd partners. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
