A CONVICT released by virtue of a law that reduces an inmate’s sentence due to good conduct surrendered to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Friday, September 6.
DCPO Director Alexander Tagum said Danilo Alvarez Palicte, a resident of Davao City, has surrendered to the local police authority, days after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the surrender of convicts erroneously released by virtue of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA).
He said Palicte is the first GCTA-granted convict who voluntarily submitted himself to the local authorities. The convict surrendered at the Sasa Police Station around 10:25 a.m.
Based on the information from Lt. Col. Leo Tarongoy of the DCPO-Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IMDB), Tagum said Palicte was one of those granted by the GCTA.
He said the convict was released from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, Davao del Norte last April 16.
Tagum said Palicte was sentenced to reclusion perpetua for statutory rape in 1989.
Meanwhile, he said they will continue their pursuit in re-arresting convicts granted by the GCTA.
"DCPO would like to re-echo the call of our President to all prisoners who were released through GCTA to surrender immediately to the nearest police station," Tagum said.
President Duterte, on Wednesday, gave the convicts 15 days to surrender.
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), meanwhile, said those who will not surrender will face criminal charges.
The GCTA had various discrepancies in its implementation, which resulted to Duterte firing ex-Bureau of Corrections chief Nicanor Faeldon.
