Market folk assured of inclusive development

BAGUIO City Councilor Mylen Yaranon assured market folk of inclusive development.

"We assure market stakeholders of a bigger selling space, wider corridors, better vertical accessibility, cleaner and well lighted market, access to utilities and better access to PUVs, parking amenities," Yaranon said.

The local lady lawmaker said the City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) is now in the process of making the market plan.

"There is no costing yet. Recently, we had detailed planning on market vendors locations, there were reactions as to who would be at the front or at the ground floor, but CBAO assured them that with the foot traffic planned, no one will be left out," added Yaranon.

Yaranon, chair of the committee on public works, earlier said relocation of areas has approved by stakeholders after a series of meetings in coordination with city officials adding relocation is needed for proper zoning of the multilevel structure.

The city official said based on initial plans for the wet market section, the area will be moved to better manage sanitation as well as transferring the fruits and vegetables area to more strategic areas.

Under the still to be perfected market development plan, an area for loading and unloading of passengers for jeepneys has been created at the frontage to lessen traffic towards Harrison Road, allot space for senior citizens to sit and market goers to lounge in.

The area will also double as a space to place the night market, if plans continue.
