Milo Cebu leg eyes 18,000 runners

SOME 18,000 runners and fitness enthusiasts will paint a sea of green on the streets of Cebu City when the 2019 Milo Marathon Cebu Regional Qualifiers takes center stage on Sept. 29, 2019.

The best runners in this side of the country are expected to spice up the 21-kilometer race, which serves as one of the 10 regional qualifying legs for the national finals.

As the hardcore runners compete in the 21K category, the weekend runners and fitness enthusiasts can participate in the 10K and 5K categories.

Cebu’s head organizer Ricky Ballesteros told SunStar Cebu on Friday that the target number for this year is around 18,000.

The runners who will finish within the qualifying time will be eligible to compete in the national finals in January next year.

The national finals is usually held in the first week of December but it has been moved to January since the country will be hosting the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.

The remaining qualifying legs are in Iloilo City on Oct. 6, General Santos City on Oct. 13, Davao City on Oct. 20 and Cagayan de Oro City on Nov. 17.

Registration for the Cebu leg will be until Sept. 25 at the Philippine Sports Commission office inside the Cebu City Sports Center.

Registration fee is P1,000 for the21K and P900 for the 10K, while the 5K and 3K are at P110 for the students and P160 for the adults.

The runners in the 21K must submit a fit-to-run medical certificate upon registration. (RSC)
