Dawlah Islamiya follower surrenders

A MEMBER of the Maute group now known as the Dawlah Islamiya has surrendered to military authorities in the province of Lanao del Sur, the military said.

Lieutenant Colonel Rafman Altre, Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion commander, said the Dawlah Islamiya member, whose name was withheld for security reasons, surrendered around 3 p.m. Thursday, September 5, in Bubong Madanding village, Marantao, Lanao del Sur.

Altre said the Dawlah Islamiya surrenderer has turned over a caliber .45 pistol and a shotgun.

He said the surrenderer revealed that he was recruited by a certain Abu Anas, member of the Dawlah Islamiya based on the initial custodial debriefing result.

Brigadier General Romeo Brawner, Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, has urged the other members of the Dawlah Islamiya to surrender as the focused military operations against them will continue without let-up.

“We encourage local terrorist groups and their supporters to surrender and submit themselves to the folds of the law in order to make their community peaceful,” Brawner said. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
