Custodio: A mind full of mindfulness

APOLOGIES are in order I believe, as I have failed to submit articles for my column the past few weeks. I was away and had no idea most of the time what day or time it is. The time difference and extended sunlight hours really messed up my concept of time.

I should have been more mindful of the date and time difference but sadly, I wasn’t. It was quite a struggle, amidst my daily schedule of attending the event activities, running after trains and unforeseen things, to keep track! I constantly tried to remind myself to keep tabs on my already existing responsibilities back home but I just kept on forgetting! Needless to say, I was an epic failure in time management therefore becoming an inconvenience to those who expect me to “deliver” what I normally do.

It is a given. There are certain things in life that we constantly need to be aware of, and that we have to try our best to adjust to the changes affecting it. I am upset that I have not learned this lesson fast enough. But what can I do? Some things in life are meant to become missed opportunities and unexpected losses. However, it is really up to us to rise above these. It is our duty to pull ourselves out of that sinking feeling and move on. It is also up to us to get things done despite feeling downtrodden.

I have a better understanding of people who may be in the same predicament. When somebody fails or falls below expectations, their circumstances may have changed and they just need time to gather their senses. Sometimes this feels like the rug has suddenly been pulled from under your feet. Hopefully, they will be able to catch on soon and things will be normal again.

Life will continue to teach us new things. It does not matter what age or who gets the lesson..it will just keep coming! Sometimes we get discouraged and we have reason to feel that way. At some point though, we have to accept the challenge and go at it the best way we can.

Time that has passed is time well spent if we learn its lessons and the realization that there are risks and regrets that come with it. Its can be disheartening but as we wrestle with life, we learn to soften the blows to minimize the pain. Hopefully, we learn not to dwell on its ill feelings and see them as opportunities to be better. It’s better to live on the bright side, let’s be mindful of that!

Happy Sunday Everyone! :)
