Benguet board member seat remains vacant

FOLLOWING the demise of the late Apolinario Camsol, the Provincial Board member seat in the Benguet Provincial Board remains vacant.

Camsol, 70, from Abatan, Buguias, passed away in a hospital in Baguio City on July 25.

During the May 2019 local and national elections, he was re-elected as provincial board member of the second district under the Partido ng Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party.

Camsol served as a three-term Buguias mayor in 1992 to 1998 and 2001 to 2004 before becoming a provincial board member in 2004 to 2013 and 2016-2019.

Vice Governor Johnny Waguis, who is also a member of the PDP-Laban party, said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Benguet, through a resolution on August 19, already informed the Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and PDP-Laban party of the demise of the late board member.

"The Sangguninang Panlalawigan is awaiting for the action of the PDP-Laban Party of whom they will nominate," he added.

PDP-Laban is led by Koko Pimentel III with Benguet Congressman Nestor Fongwan Sr. as the provincial chair.

Rufina Fegcan, DILG Benguet provincial director, said the party should recommend to the president a qualified candidate for the vacant seat in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Section 45 of the Local Government Code of the Philippines state permanent vacancies in the Sanggunian, the appointee shall come from the same political party as that of the Sangguniang member who caused the vacancy and shall serve the unexpired term of the vacant office.
