JIMMY YU and Kay Cundangan conquered the 14th edition of the University Run, winning the open men’s and women’s 10K titles on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) campus in North Reclamation Area, Mandaue City.
Yu breasted the tape in 46 minutes and 56 seconds to win the men’s side, while Cundangan crossed the finish line in 47:54 to top the women’s division.
Alesandro Sacris finished second in 47:23 and was followed by Aldrin Rustom Pasumala in 47:56 and Cebu Doctors’ Group Hospital president Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III in 48:03.
Maria Victoria Tan and Lynelyn Malalie were the runners-up in the women’s side with times of 59:16 and 1:00:13, respectively
In the 5K open category, Bryan Kent Catubig won the men’s division in 25:35. Joseph Carzon snagged second place in 27:33 and Krian Bolo settled for third in 36:25.
Gwendolyn Undang won the women’s 5K open in 27:32. Ivy Castro and Jennifer Palis came second and third with times of 32:35 and 32:37, respectively.
Nicolas Ong and triathlete Cianyl Jamae Gonzalez were the fastest runners in the 3K category, which was exclusive for CDU students.
Ong completed the course in 12:25, beating Ian Baygan by 11 seconds for the men’s crown. Kenneth Daniel finished in 12:37 to take third place. (RSC)
