GCTA-freed convict surrenders in Northern Samar

ANOTHER convict released based on the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law voluntarily surrendered in Victoria, Northern Samar Saturday, September 7, 2019.

Nimrod Purog is the second convict from Eastern Visayas who obeyed the order of President Rodrigo Duterte and surrendered to the authorities.

Purog, with prison number N214P-061, turned himself in at the Victoria Municipal Police Station at about 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

He was released from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa on April 10, 2019.

Based on a memorandum dated April 5, 2019, Purog had served his sentence with GCTA.

On September 4, Duterte issued a 15-day ultimatum for heinous crime convicts released under the GCTA law to surrender in the wake of reports on irregularities in the granting of time allowance for good conduct.

The Philippine National Police is now tracking about 1,700 heinous crime convicts who were released before June 2019. (Ronald O. Reyes/SunStar Philippines)
