Returning the favor, giving the loyalty

FIRST stage, it is the benefits and the privileges that the job-seekers are usually looking for in a company. But when they are hired and have loved the company they are working with because they are also being cared by the company, expect them to return the favor. As they say loyalty goes both ways.

Such as these two employees who have found their place and their hearts here in Sunstar Davao.

Wenceslao Mendoza, who is celebrating his 20th year in the company, recalls that Sunstar Davao gave him the benefits that were absent in his previous work at a broadcasting company.

“Bahin sa benepisyo, angat og dyutay ang Sunstar. On time ang suweldo. Gawas sa suweldo duna pay 4th month pay ug bugas ug intellicare, gawas sa cash nga makuha kon wa nimo magamit ang imong sick ug emergency leaves kay convertible to cash man. Ug diyutay nga grocery panahon sa pasko (In terms of benefits, Sunstar stands out a little. Our salary is given on time, and aside from our salary, Sunstar also gives us 4th month pay and rice allowance and health insurance from Intellicare. Sunstar also converts to cash our unused sick and emergency leaves, and a little grocery during Christmas),” he said.

Mendoza, Sunstar Superbalita editor, said that aside from his fast-paced world at the radio, getting news reports and reporting them on air at the same time, working at Sunstar gave him the breather.

He bared that he felt lucky when Sunstar Davao former editor-in-chief Antonio M. Ajero hired him on the spot for his radio experience.

With these in mind, Mendoza said that he will use his eight-year experience in radio and two-decade working with Sunstar as a tool to help Sunstar Davao to sustain.

“Ang pagka-digital sa panahon, giyahan sa kasinatian sa samang natad o industriya dako og matabang aron nga molahutay ang mantalaan (The digitalization, guided by experiences in the same industry is a big help to sustain our newspaper), he said.

Virgilio Llanos Jr, another loyalty awardee for celebrating his five years with Sunstar Davao, dreamt of becoming a regular employee because he had heard a lot of good things when you are a regular employee.

“I was an employee of an agency before working as a delivery boy at Sunstar Davao. So when Sunstar Davao opened a job vacancy, I immediately grabbed the opportunity,” Llanos said in the vernacular.

He said since Sunstar Davao fulfilled his dream to become a regular employee, he vows to work diligently as a collector.

“Ug isip naa sa field perme, ang akong matabang para sa kompanya kay mangolekta og tarong ug dili magbagdoy-bagdoy (And as an employee who is always at the field, what I can do to help the company is to do my job sincerely), he said.

Llanos also hopes and prays that Sunstar Davao will stand the test of times and even expand not only in Davao Region but also in other regions as well.

He also envisions that Sunstar Davao will lead not only in Davao Region in terms of print and digital but in the whole island of Mindanao in the next five years.
