Monsoon rains damage P3.8-M rice plants in Pampanga

DAMAGE to ricefields reached P3,851,204, according to the latest report of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).

The OPA said that initial reports from Mexico town showed P51,724.80 worth of damage to palay. This was factored into the previously reported damage from Candaba and Magalang towns with P3,770,743.60 to P 28,736, respectively.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said that reports on agricultural damage would be verified by the DA and the Philippine Statistics Authority to pave for efficient assistance action for affected farmers.

Meanwhile, 33 barangays in Pampanga are now flooded due to ongoing monsoon rains and high tide. Five barangays in San Simon were reportedly flooded, with water reaching as high as one to two meters, due to high tide.

Water from upstream areas coupled by high tide and the monsoon rain also flooded 22 barangays in Masantol town. High tide also led to flooding in seven Macabebe barangays as of Monday, September 9.
