PNP coordinates with Interpol to arrest Sison

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has coordinated with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to arrest Netherlands-based Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison.

"Yes, ito naman ay standard procedure natin, ang maimpormahan ang ating mga counterparts abroad patungkol sa mga tao o Pilipinong may standing warrant of arrest," Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said during a press briefing.

(This is standard procedure, to inform our counterparts abroad about Filipinos with standing warrant of arrest.)

"Kinakailangan ding maimpormahan sila dahil concern din sila sa kani-kanilang mga security," Banac added.

(We need to inform them because this is a security concern.)

On August 28, the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 32 Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina issued an arrest warrant against Sison, his wife Juliet, National Democratic Front (NDF) senior adviser Luis Jalandoni and 35 others over their alleged involvement in the murder of several people who were found in a mass grave in Inopacan, Leyte in 2006.

Medina has recommended no bail against the accused.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) earlier said it would coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Justice Department for Sison’s possible arrest in order to give justice to the victims of the communist terrorist who "perpetrated dastardly, cowardly and devilish acts."
