1st Industrial Summit in Mindanao earns support from biz groups

THE European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) is among the big business organizations that has expressed its attendance to the Philippine Industrial Summit in Mindanao (PIS) this November.

In a meeting with Phividec Industrial Authority (PIA) last Thursday, ECCP executive director Florian Gottein has shown support and the willingness to participate at PIS 2019.

Phividec administrator Franklin Quijano said Consulate General Yoshiaki Miwa of the Consulate of Japan in Davao also showed support for the summit.

The summit, organized by the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental (PIE-MO) Industries Association, Inc. is poised to be the biggest event in the country to discuss the state of industrialization in the Philippines. It will run from November 26-28 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel Ballroom in Cagayan de Oro City.

Quijano said the event coincides with Administrative Order 18 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte last June 17 which calls for the swift development of ecozones in rural areas.

“Businesses located in ecozones can benefit from tax-free imports and exemption from government fees, among other incentives,” Quijano said.

“The establishment of ecozones in the countryside will allow economic activity to thrive outside of Metro Manila and generate jobs in these areas. The Philippine Industrial Summit in Mindanao (PIS) seeks to jumpstart an industrial era which complements the new administrative order,” he added.

The summit will also be tackling the modernization of Philippine industries in accordance to the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0, the latest standard in industrial advancement.

“PIS makes us prepare for the future,” he added.
