Village execs get deadline in road clearing operation

VILLAGE officials have until Wednesday, September 11, to completely clear their roads from obstructions and encroachments.

This, as the local government intends to pursue to the letter the national directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to reclaim public roads per Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular 2019-121.

“I’m giving them only until Wednesday to fully implement this and submit it immediately to the DILG. Our deadline is fast approaching, but by Wednesday, I want all the 98 barangays to fully comply,” Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said.

Salazar said that for its part, the local government has spearheaded anti-obstruction drives, dubbed OPLAN Baklas, to dismantle structures and other road obstructions in the village of San Jose Gusu, Guiwan, and Putik in the past few weeks.

The city government also recently launched towing operations to clear roads from illegally parked vehicles.

Salazar further ordered strict compliance from all 98 villages in the implementation of the DILG memorandum.

The DILG Memorandum 2019-121 directs local officials to reclaim public roads and rid them of illegal structures and constructions in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s orders in his 2019 State of the Nation Address.

The memorandum, issued on July, tasked local governments to achieve, document, and report significant results within 60 calendar days. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
