Angeles mayor to lead probe vs 'erring' City Hall employees

ANGELES City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. will investigate the alleged involvement of City Hall employees behind the resumption of operations of bars that were shut down last September 6.

Two of 21 establishments inspected during the inter-office saturation were closed due to lack of health cards, outdated probooks, and health check-ups of employees such as pap smear.

"I will not allow any misconduct in my city. If I have to investigate fully all the employees here, I will," the mayor said.

Lazatin also pushed for the creation of an Internal Affairs Division.

"I want to know who the corrupt and abusive employees here are. The people of Angeles deserve to receive the best service from the city government, without hesitating to help them and asking for something in return," he said.

According to the mayor, starting Wednesday, September 11, the renewal and inquiry of health cards will be conducted at the Social Hygiene Office.

Lazatin said he will be strict with business establishments in the issuance of health cards.

"This is our way to protect our tourists in the city, to prevent them from acquiring STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), HIV (human immunodeficiency viruses), or any health-related issues," he added.

As a new policy, the mayor will have to approve first if a business that was shut down is already okay to operate.

He said this is part of his campaign to assure a level playing field, particularly along Walking Street.

"If you are here in my city, you need to abide by the laws of the City Government and the country. We need to be fair and transparent. No more crooked path. No more," he said. (PR)
