Ateneo de Davao tankers lord over rivals in Dacs swimfest

ATENEO de Davao University (Addu) tankers dominated the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Sportsfest 2019 swimming competition held at Fr. Rodolfo Malasmas pool at Addu Matina campus, Davao City.

Addu harvested a total of 57 gold medals, 42 silvers and 34 bronzes: 20-9-7 from the secondary girls team; 11-4-3 from the elementary boys team, 10-9-13 from seconday boys team; 10-7-2 from women’ s college team and 1-7-5 from men’ s college team.

In joint elementary and secondary divisions, Stella Maris Academy of Davao scooped 13golds, 17 silvers and nine bronzes while the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) bagged three golds, four silvers and one bronze while San Pedro College (SPC) had a 1-5-8 medal count.

In college event, SPC topped the men’s class with 12 golds, five silvers and one bronze but placed second to Ateneo following a 3-6-7 mark.

Caitleen San Felix clinched three golds in secondary girls 800m freestyle, 200m individual medley (IM) and 100m butterfly as well as steering Ateneo’s golden finish in secondary girls 400m freestyle relay with teammates Pia Francesca Suarez, Kirsten Orcullo and Maiki Samantha Gonzaga and in secondary girls 400m medley relay with Joanna Gonzales, Maica Angela Garcia and Pia Francesca Suarez.

Ateneo’s Gonzaga, for her part, added three individual golds in secondary girls 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle and she also helped Ateneo win the secondary girls 200m freestyle relay gold with Jean Noelle Arteche, Gonzales and Jewell Diana Tubianosa.

Joshua Raphael del Rio, an Arafura Games 2019 and 10th BIMP-Eaga Friendship Games 2018 gold medalist, lived up to his billing by pocketing the secondary boys 1,500m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 200m IM, 200m freestyle and the 400m medley relay (with Emilio Cordero, Francis Espiritu and Josh Michael Lao.

Ateneo’s other champions were Chuck Brylle Amparo (elementary boys 50m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, elementary boys 200m IM, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly); Sophia Gabrielle Muñoz (college women 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m IM, 100m freestyle); Joanna Kayla Gonzales (secondary girls 200m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke);

Andi Lianna Solitaria (elementary girls 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke); Sophia Danica Trinidad (college women 50m breaststroke, 100m IM, 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle); Maica Angela Garcia (secondary girls 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke); Pia Francesca Suarez (secondary girls 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly); Juhan Mesha Alimasag (elementary girls 200m IM); Chyll Bea Amparo (college women 50m butterfly); Luis Patricio Basas (elementary boys 400m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle); Maria Arabella del Rio (secondary girls 400m IM); Russell Cayunda (secondary boys 50m backstroke); Eugene Escoton (college men 100m freestyle); and Francis Greg Espiritu (secondary boys 200m breaststroke).

Ateneo also won golds in elementary boys 200m relay (Amparo, Karl Santa Cruz, Basas and Esmond Dujali); secondary boys 200m medley relay (Cayunda, Tristan Pantaleon, Francis Espiritu, Matthew Cagape); secondary girls 200m medley relay (Tubianosa, Garcia, Chryss Julianne Dailo, Maria Del Rio); elementary boys 400m freestyle (Santino Espinosa, Elijah Apruebo, Nathan Shore, Dujali); elementary girls 400m freestyle relay (Kassandra Papa, Ria Tamayo, Samantha Mei Teo, Andrei Espiritu); elementary girls 400m medley relay (Juhan Alimasag, Solitaria, Sofia Hernandez, Maisie Labog); college women 400m medley relay (Muñoz, Trinidad, Samantha Inoc, Chyll Amparo); elementary boys 200m freestyle (Basas, Santa Cruz, Espinosa, Amparo); and college women 200m freestyle relay.
