Bago City tops 2019 Regional Gawad Kalasag

THE Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council is once again adjudged as the best DRRM council component city category in Western Visayas as it topped this year’s 21st Regional Gawad Kalasag award in Iloilo City, September 6.

For being awarded as the Best DRRM Council for seven straight years, the BCDRRMO was given the grand slam award as best DRRM performer in Western Visayas.

They also bagged the Best Local Government Emergency Management and Response Team Services or GEMS. It is a special award acknowledging the efforts of the Bago disaster office in emergency response.

The GEMS award recognizes Bago City for its exemplary performance in sustaining invaluable and selfless service to the community.

Bago City also bagged the Best DRRM Advocate award and a special recognition to Pauline Anne Lamela, an active volunteer and member of Bago Disaster Resilience Youth Volunteer group for her campaign and support as a youth leader to DRRM.

DRRM action officer Dr. Merijene Ortizo thanked the Office of the Civil Defense Region 6 for the awards and recognition. It will serve as motivation for them to work harder, she said.

In his inaugural address last June 28, Bago Mayor Nicholas Yulo said that his administration will continue to support the CDRRMO with more equipment and trainings to improve its disaster risk reduction and management capabilities.

Gawad Kalasag is the country’s premier recognition scheme to various stakeholders that design and implement Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) programs that protect and shield high risk communities against hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities and coping from disasters.
