THE town of Kalibo in Aklan province has formed its own fire brigade with the help of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The brigade is composed of volunteers coming from the town's different sectors. They have been trained to respond to fire emergencies.

Fire Inspector Sidgie Gerardo, Kalibo fire marshall, said they have distributed 51 identification cards and certificate of competency to Municipal Government employees who volunteered to be part of the brigade.

Aside from government workers, private companies in Kalibo have also organized their own fire brigades. These companies include Gaisano-Kalibo, Filbake Bread and Butter, Panay Health Care, and the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital.

"The town of Kalibo was the first town in the province to have organized the fire brigade," Gerardo said.

Fire volunteers were reminded to use the acronym Safe, which stands for: Sound the alarm, Advice the nearest fire department, Fight the fire, and Exit the building. (Jun N. Aguirre/SunStar Philippines)
