VERY recently, Zonta Club of Cebu 2 tackled a super relevant issue affecting teenage girls of today.
Knowing the urgency of the situation, the club took on the advocacy against teenage pregnancies. A seminar, “Teenage Pregnancy and Teaching Teens about Responsible Sexuality,” was then conducted and led by no less than Zontian Ob-Gyn specialist, Dr. Asuncion “Chona” Tremedal. Coordinator was Zonta past president, Dr. Vivien Seno, of the club’s Advocacy Committee, who gathered 102 teens at the Redemptorist Learning Center with Zontians, residents and interns likewise in rapt attention.
Of the many video clips presented, we were concerned about teenage situations that would lead to pregnancy, teenage marriage or union. Of equal importance during the discussions were the results of such indiscretions: Sexually transmitted diseases (STD), vaginal infections and even drug addiction.
A poster-making activity followed. Participants were asked to portray themselves five to 10 years from now. All group members had the same message: They want to earn a degree, and better their lives! This happy decision prompted Dr. Tremedal and the other ladies to title the module, “No to Teenage Pregnancy” and “Teaching Teens about Smart Choices.” This will hold true for future lectures of Zonta on this subject.

“Lauren and I will be hosting dinner tonight and you’re invited,” announced Baby Manguerra-Brainard to her extended family and friends.
And so, they all gathered at Casino Español de Cebu to welcome Lauren, Baby’s dear hubby, who hasn’t been around these parts in a long time. Remember, Baby jets here twice a year!
Lauren is a towering American attorney who swept Baby off her feet, many moons ago. And since then, have built their nest in Santa Monica, (California) with their three good-looking boys!
The pleasant evening bloomed with nostalgia, where much in focus were Lauren’s Peace Corps days in Leyte, when he met Baby for the first time! Sigh!
