THE third edition of the Siomai Fun Run slated on Sept. 22, 2019 will feature a new category with the addition of the 9-kilometer distance to cater to the clamor of the runners.
Barangay Tisa in Cebu City will once again host the sporting event as part of the activities in the 2019 Siomai Festival. The race will start and end at the Gaisano Tisa.
“This is the sixth year for the Siomai Festival and the third year for the fun run. We encourage the youth and the people of Tisa to engage in a healthy lifestyle,” said Barangay Tisa councilor Joel Alcazaren on Thursday’s Scoop Forum at the Tisa Barangay Hall.
Alcazaren said the proceeds of the event will be allocated to fund the nightly activities for the Siomai Festival. Some parts of the proceeds will be donated also to activities for senior citizens.
The race will feature the 9K, 6K and 3K categories. The 9K distance will be for the elite runners, the 6K is for the executive runners and the 3K is for the senior citizens and students.
“What’s new for this year is the addition of the 9K category. It has been added to cater the serious runners. We are also encouraging the youth of Brgy. Tisa to join,” said Tisa Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairwoman Sonia Fate Cal.
Race director Joe Deresas said the Top 10 runners will receive prizes. A total of P64,000 cash prizes will be shelled out to the winners courtesy of the Cebu City Government and Tisa Barangay Council.
The podium finishers in the men’s and women’s 9K will each get P5,000, P3,000 and P1,000. The top three in the 6K will win P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, while the fastest runners in the 3K will pocket P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.
The run is open to all runners even to non-Tisa residents.
“The run is one of our outlets in informing the people that we are having a Siomai Festival. It helps with the promotion of the festival,” said Alcazaren. “We invite you all to experience not just the run but also the Siomai Festival," he added.
The fun run is organized by the Barangay Tisa Senior Citizens Association in coordination with the Marathon Organizers of Metro Cebu.
Registration fee is at P350 for the 9K, P300 for the 6K and P250 for the 3K. Entry forms are available at the Tisa Barangay Hall until September 20. (SunStar Cebu)
