Construction firms want to expand biz in Cebu

AS THE country’s infrastructure development continues to drive economic activity and growth, Cebu remains a top player in the construction industry.

Worldbex Services International managing director Jill Aithnie Ang said they consider Cebu an important market since it is Central Visayas’ major economic driver in terms of construction.

“Cebu is the best place because it’s the star player of the whole region,” she said.

The company hosted the 17th year of the Philippine Building and Construction Expo (Philbex) Cebu with the theme: “A World Built Bolder” Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 at the Cebu Trade Hall of SM City Cebu.

“The expo is covering a variety of products. Aside from the product features, we also mounted a gallery where we feature Cebu-based architects and interior designers,” she said.

Ang emphasized the growing interest of construction-related companies that want to grow their presence in Central Visayas.

According to Ang, the growth of the industry is anchored on the country’s Build, Build Build program, which is paving the way for more public-private partnerships.

Over 70 local and international exhibitors alongside various associations and government partners collectively make up the 120 booths for this year’s expo.

Philbex 2019 is committed to serve as a platform where industry professionals can uncover new and unprecedented business-to-business opportunities, establish meaningful networks and gain relevant industry knowledge.

One of the exhibitors, Martin Peña, branch head of Smart House Corp., a modular home builder that has been in the market for 10 years, said they see a growing demand in Cebu.

“We have a high demand. We have clients who want their offices built in just two to three days,” he said.

Philbex Cebu will run from Sept. 12 to 15. (JOB)
