Another farmer killed; brutal deaths in Bukidnon now at 15

A FARMER in Bukidnon was shot dead recently in his house by one of the two suspects who posed as the victim’s visitor.

Police identified the victim as Leonides Bacong, 63, a resident of Little Baguio, San Fernando, Bukidnon.

Initial investigation showed that the two still unidentified assailants entered Bacong’s house, posing themselves as visitors. The suspects had a conversation with Bacong, until one of them pulled a gun and shot Bacong at close range, hitting the left portion of the victim’s neck.

Police said the suspects fled on foot from the crime scene, heading to unknown direction.

The victim was still brought to San Fernando-Bukidnon Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Investigation is still going on to determine the identities and motive of the suspects.

In its Facebook page, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas-Northern Mindanao (KMP) said Bacong was a local leader of KMP’s provincial chapter, Kasama-Bukidnon.

According to the group, this is the 15th recorded killings in the province.

“Brutal attacks against activists and rights advocates continue to intensify since martial law was imposed in Mindanao in 2017,” the group added.
