Tell it to SunStar: Poor bikers

THIS decision by the Mactan-Cebu Bridge Management Board to ban bicycles on the two bridges is ill-advised and reeks of elitism.

While bikers like me pass through the bridge as a form of amusement, such as during bike races and exercises, there is a multitude of people who bike and pass through the bridge on their way to work or school. Most of them are poor who can’t afford expensive cars and are trying to save up money by using bicycles as their way of mobility. I don’t understand the wisdom behind this ban and the law that inspired it, that which bans bicycles on bridges. Didn’t we say that those who have less in life should have more of the law?

The board should reconsider their decision. While they worry about suicides happening on the bridges, it is not right to punish one sector just because they can’t think of better ways to prevent suicides on the bridges. (By Jose Tecson, Mandaue City)
