LTO-Cordillera to correct same license plate

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Cordillera recently released a memorandum that seeks to correct vehicles having similar plate numbers.

In memorandum 2019-105, LTO-Cordillera Director Francis Almora stated the need for the conduct of corrective measures on similar plate number of vehicles to prevent accidental misrepresentation.

"We have released this memo after our attention was called on vehicle plates having similar numerical identification, and we advised all offices, especially here in Baguio, to stop the use of off-set numbers and instead if the plates are still not available, they should use the alpha numerics of the conduction stickers," Almora said.

The LTO made the move after several taxi units in Baguio City have the same system generated temporary plate numbers.

Almora ordered all LTO office heads in the region manning the change classification from hire to private to undertake the necessary information-dissemination indicating the removal of numeric plates.

He also asked the drivers and operators to bring with them their licensed plate numbers with new registration units coming from their dealers under the prescribed schedule on the availability of plates.

"The drivers and operators may also use the motor vehicle file number which used by rebuilt vehicles because it does not have conduction stickers. But if a vehicle has a conduction sticker, then the alpha numerics of its conduction stickers should be used," he said.

"Our LTO personnel are now deployed and checking on this and we found out that the error came from our office and we accept that the use is not really illegal but is inappropriate because as early as 2016, we have had an issuance that what is supposed to be used is the alpha numerics of the conduction stickers while MV file numbers would be used for those rebuilt vehicles," Almora added.

Almora also reminded drivers and operators of vehicles having incorrect plate numbers and were earlier warned that the next time they will be intercepted, they will be apprehended for failure to attach a plate.
