DTI Cebu to launch P26M worth of SSF

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu is set to launch more than P26 million worth of Shared Service Facilities (SSF) in Cebu this month.

DTI Cebu Provincial Office announced it will launch six new SSFs and one upgraded SSF in Danao, Carmen, Pinamungajan and Argao.

Marivic Aguilar, DTI Cebu provincial office chief for small and medium enterprise development division, said SSF is a government-led project that provides certain equipment to be managed by a cooperator.

She said SSF aims to address processing and manufacturing gaps or bottleneck in the industry cluster priorities in the absence of a facility or lack of capacity to fulfill production potential.

The projects will help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) strengthen their productivity and competitiveness through upgraded machinery, equipment, tools, systems, accessories, skills and knowledge.

On Sept. 17, 2019, DTI Cebu will turn over a digital fabrication laboratory in Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Danao Campus. On the same day, a fabric printing and product packaging equipment will also be handed over to the CTU-Carmen Campus.

On Sept.18, 2019, DTI Cebu will turn over a dairy processing production equipment to Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative to help the local community of aspiring agri-business entrepreneurs. DTI will also turn over equipment for cacao products processing and garments production.

Moreover, DTI Cebu will also turn over a digital fabrication laboratory to CTU-Argao Campus on Sept. 20. It will also hand over the upgraded SSF for the town’s handloom weaving industry.

Aguilar said they are targeting towns outside major cities to spread the latest technology and enhance the capability of those living in the countryside.

“We want to expand the opportunities to local communities for the people to know more about digital fabrication and others skills,” she said.

DTI 7 has already launched 50 SSF projects in Cebu. The agency vows to continue reaching out to the MSMEs to help them scale up their businesses. (JOB)
