“HOW do you like your steak?”
Cooked on stone seems like a foreign concept or a nod to the prehistoric era but still, it piques one’s curiosity.
Alpa City Suites is home to one such dining experience where it lets the stone do all the grilling, hence the name Stonegrill.
This concept lets its diners experience their steaks cooked in front of them using volcanic stones bearing a good heat retention and heated up for 12 hours reaching up to 400°C, using a special kind of oven.
“We wanted to let the city know that Alpa City Suites is not just a reliable business hotel but also a place abundant for gastronomic experiences,” shared Christian Layese of marketing and communications. Introduced in June 2013, it was re-launched last Aug. 29 to guests comprising of business partners and media members, where everyone had the chance to see for themselves how the concept works.
Different kinds of cuts are used in Stonegrill from certified Angus beef tenderloin to rib eye. New cuts are also available like ribeye no roll, rib eye prime and Brazilian tenderloin.
Using this method sears in the natural juices and enhances the full flavor. While people have their own preferred degree of doneness—rare, medium rare or well done, for instance—diners can seek can get the assistance of the chef and even get some tips when it comes to the duration of cooking per side to get their desired preference.
Besides the different cuts of steaks, its other choices include sea bass and scallops; Pacific tiger prawns, Norwegian salmon, pork back ribs and boneless chicken leg; all of which are paired with vegetables on the side with choice of either rice or buttered mashed potato or fries, and are available at the hotel’s Amo’s Café, open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
