Taxi driver nabbed for extortion

A TAXI driver was arrested in entrapment operation conducted by operatives of Police Station 7 for robbery extortion at the entrance of Adams Lodge in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City Thursday evening.

Police identified the suspect as Romy Cortez, 40, of Barangay 1, Silay City.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said yesterday the suspect was arrested after he tried to extort money from a 20-year-old call center agent, whose name is being withheld.

Investigation showed the victim was the usual passenger of the suspect. The suspect asked the victim’s number so he can pick-up her everytime she will report to her work.

Pico said the victim sought the assistance of the police on Thursday after the suspect told her that he has her nude videos which he allegedly took while she was taking a bath.

He said the suspect told them that the victim was his neighbor and he took a nude pictures and videos of the victim.

“But, it was only his allegation so that he can extort money from the victim,” he added.

The police are now preparing the robbery extortion and resisting arrest charges to be filed against the suspect, who is now detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 7.

Pico urged the Bacolodnons not to give their personal numbers to anybody else to avoid similar incident.
