FOR 10 years now, the Sun-Star Media Group has been publishing The Cebu Year Book (fondly called the CYB), which accounts for the significant highlights and milestones that happened in Cebu in the past year.

Highlighting an already events-packed February was the formal launching of "The Cebu Yearbook 2010" and exhibit at SM City Cebu Northwing.

Since 2001, the CYB has been populating its pages with more and more noteworthy feats and impressive Cebuano accomplishments.

Now on its 10th year, the yearbook tackles the theme on education, focusing on Cebu as a knowledge center and its capabilities in producing world-class professionals.

The latest edition also delves on the changing arena of information exchange and the Cebuano’s various triumphs in the fields of art and science. The CYB celebrates two milestones this year: Its 10th anniversary, and the turnover of its stewardship to the executive vice president and general manager of Sunstar Publishing, Julius “Jay” Neri Jr.

The program, held on Feb 26 at the SM Northwing lobby, was simple and punctuated with laughter, cocktails and the music of Guitar Foundation Philippines led by Joel Oporto and Reggie Bernaldez.

To officially herald the opening of the photo exhibit, the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place with Julius Neri Jr.; former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia; Marissa Fernan, vice president of SM Prime Holdings Inc.; and Edmun Liu, president of Basic Graphics.

The exhibit showcased a couple of photographers’ winning pieces in the photo contest themed “Teach” and “My Cebu.”

Another high point of the day was the sight of CYB founding executive publisher Gina Garcia Atienza’s candle-blowing since she chose to share her birthday with the Sun.Star Cebu team.

The people in attendance held obvious affection for the coffee table book. It’s a work of art that stands up for its source, the ever-resilient Cebuano. Much can be said, but in the end, the ever-resilient Cebuanos must decide for themselves.

You can get copies of the Sun.Star Cebu Yearbook 2010 are available at all National Bookstore branches and at Powerbooks, SM City Northwing.
