Elorde suffers knockout in title fight

JUAN Miguel Elorde failed in his bid at becoming a world champion like his grandfather, the late great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, after suffering a fourth-round stoppage at the hands of World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 (PHL time), at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Navarrete landed a vicious right hook that rocked Elorde and forced referee Russell Mora to step in and stop the fight in the 26-second mark of the fourth round. The 32-year-old Elorde, rated No. 2 in the WBO before this fight, saw his 18-fight winning streak end. He dropped to 28-2 with 15 knockouts. The 24-year-old Navarrete improved to 29-1 with 25 knockouts. (EKA)
