IN TODAY’S world, many people are not only conscious of how they look. They have also become interested on how to make themselves feel better.

You might have observed that a lot of our family and friends have been asking about beauty and wellness ideas. Personally, I have been receiving questions ranging from skincare regimen to health tips. In short, beauty and wellness events are surely a welcome development.

On Saturday, September 14, beauty and wellness products retailer Watsons held the 3rd leg of its World of Wellness campaign in Davao City’s SMX Convention Center.

In an interview with the company’s trading health director Rafael Lim, he bared that it has been their desire to continuously educate the Filipinos on how to improve their health condition. He also shared that they have been looking at the Google Trends list to pick the most relevant topics to be included in the event.

During the event, doctors, who are all experts in their respective fields, talked about hypertension (Dr. Reagan Cabahug), asthma (Dr. Melvin Pasay), how to be fit to work (Dr. Antonia Yamamoto), reproductive health (Dr. Junette Adtoo-Ko), and diabetes (nutritionist Stella Pickmans).

When asked why Watsons has been focusing not only on beauty but on wellness as well, Lim had this to say: “Wellness because if you look at Google trends, more and more Filipinos are getting interested to know better about their illness. That means that we have to have what they are looking for.”

He added that they must ensure, too, that what people need is accessible to them. Thus, Watsons has made its products available online where purchases can also be made. It also has expanded its reach by setting up branches outside of SM malls and other shopping destinations.

Watsons' customers consist of 70 percent women. The company is planning to open 30 to 50 more stores before 2019 ends.

“At the end of the day, you can expect that Watsons is not your typical retailer,” he said.

In the meantime, customers can get a Watsons card for only P100 to enjoy exclusive discounts and perks.

The World of Wellness event in Davao was attended by more than a hundred Dabawenyos.
