THE Araw ng Dabaw Age-Group Tennis Championships get going March 13-15 at the Ecoland Phase IV Tennis Club with five categories up for both boys and girls players.

Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) regional vice president for Mindanao Juanito Cansino said the three-day tournament is sponsored by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office, and is one of the sports activities to highlight this year's Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

Cash prizes and medals will be awarded to top finishers in the 10 unisex 12, 14, 16 and 18 years and under in both boys and girls divisions. The champions will get P2,000 plus medal apiece while the second placers are assured of P1,000 and a medal each.

The tournament is free of registration, which the deadline set at 5 p.m. on March 12.

The Araw ng Dabaw Age-Group Chess Championships, meanwhile, will be held on March 14 and 21 at the Gaisano South Citimall along Ilustre St., this city.

For the Open Division, the schedule is set on March 27 and 28 also at the same venue.

The Open champion will receive P5,000 and a trophy, second placer P2, 500, third P1,500, and fourth and fifth finishers P750 each plus medals.

In the age-group tournament, organizers will also select the best elementary student for boys and girls, best high school student for boys and girls as well as best college student for boys and girls categories aside from the regular winners. (CRAM)
