Abella, Chepsiror top Safari Run

LIZANE Abella added another feather to her cap after winning the 1st Cebu Safari Fun Run at the Cebu Safari & Adventure Park in Carmen, northern Cebu on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019.

Abella, the female ace runner of Spectrum Runners Club, finished the 21-kilometer trail route in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 44 seconds to win the women’s title and the P10,000 cash purse.

Abella completely dominated the field as she finished with a 30-minute cushion from the closest runners. Ruby Hazel Carilla came second in 2:45:40 and Charmaine Rose Navarro finished third in 2:55:00.

Kenyan Eric Chepsiror, on the other hand, topped the men’s side after breasting the tape in 1:31:56. He also won the P10,000 cash prize.

Joseph Arnel Emia of Omega Tri came 11 seconds short to Chepsiror and settled for second place. Florendino Lapiz came in 1:35:32 to round up the top men’s three.

Michael Romarate Largo and Cherry Mae Celocia won the men’s and women’s titles in the 12K category. Largo finished the race in 52:11 and Celocia cleared the 12K route in 1:18:17.

Joseph Paul Noel and Ranie Kiamco clocked in 58:49 and 1:07:59 to finish as runners-up to Largo, while Maria Lina Durano and Marie Stephan Jayson timed in 1:19:39 and 1:19:43 for second and third places in the women’s side. (RSC)
