MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar announced Monday, September 16, the plan of the local government to relocate all informal settlers or those families occupying private properties to a government-owned lot.
The relocation is being considered as most of the victims of Friday's (September 13) massive floods in the city were informal settlers on private properties, especially those areas that are identified as hazardous or flood-prone, like the river banks.
Salazar said the City Government, through the Housing and Land Management Division, has continued with the tagging of informal settlers in preparation for their eventual relocation.
"We will have to seek relocation as a solution. We will be writing the private lot owners to inform them about the situation so that they themselves should secure their properties from squatters," Salazar said.
On the part of the local government, the mayor said: "We continue to extend assistance to the flood victims, but ultimately our plan is to relocate them, priority are those staying along the river banks." (SunStar Philippines)
